Reach out to the Schools – Cholera epidemic in South-West and Littoral regions?

On 1 February 2022, Cameroon’s Ministry of Health confirmed the spread of cholera in the South-West and Littoral regions, after 37 positive cases and five deaths were recorded in just 24 hours. Situational report by the Regional delegation of Public Health for Southwest has confirmed a total of 56 cholera cases in the three (3) Kumba municipalities.

On March 17, 2022, mi niña went on field assessment reaching out to five schools within Kumba 1 and 2 municipalities to check their (Teachers and Students) level of awareness; preparedness and needs as far as maintaining proper hygiene, prevention and eradication of this epidemic and other related diseases are concerned.

Based on mi niña’s findings, there is need for these schools to risk engagement and communication guidelines on maintaining proper hygiene to prevent the spread of diseases related to poor hygiene and sanitation such as cholera.
